A delegation headed by Dr. Rene Penning de Vries, CTO of Philips Semiconductors, visited the School of Information Science and Technology (SIST) on March 16. Vice President Gong Ke, dean of SIST, met with the group and presided over a discussion among the guests and heads of SIST, the Institute of Microelectronics, the International Affairs Office of Tsinghua and the Digital TV Research Center.

During the talk, Vice President Gong, Dr. Penning de Vries and Tony Lear, senior vice president and general manager of Philips Semiconductors China, gave the group some background of Tsinghua and Philips respectively. Potential collaboration between the two sides in the areas of education and research was put forward during the discussion.

Before the meeting, the visiting delegation toured the lab in SIST and watched a demonstration of DTV.
