Tsinghua University’s Institute of Microelectronics and the Ministry of Education have jointly announced the completion of the first domestically engineered High Performance Elliptic Curve Cryptosystems (ECC) Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) Chip (THECC/233-100 Chip).
The ECC is a critical public key cryptosystem. The Institute of Microelectronics started initial research on the ECC in early 2001 and gained sponsorship from the National Information Security 863 Project in 2002. In 2004, experts from the Ministry of Science and Technology certified the chip’s performance.
The THECC/233-100 Chip has a variety of innovative applications. With speeds in the international advanced level range, the THECC/233-100 Chip has potential applications in information security, finance, electronic commerce and electronic government affairs.
