Tsinghua student athletes brought home a number of top medals from the 10th National Games of the People’s Republic of China, held in Nanjing from Oct.18-22.
Altogether five golds, six silvers and one bronze were won by Tsinghua students and teachers at the Games.
Faculty who claimed medals were Liu Yinghui (gold) and Liang Tong (silver). Liu Qing, a third-year student from the School of Economics and Management (SEM), garnered two gold medals in both finals of the women’s 800-meter and women’s 1,500-meter events; Li Xiangyu, a sophomore from SEM, won the championship in the men’s 800-meter finals; Liu Tianyou, also from SEM, won the gold medal in the 50-meter small-bore rifle competition for his near-perfect final performance of 99.4 rings; and Hu Kai, widely known as the champion of the men’s 100-meter track and field event at the 23rd World University Games held this summer in Turkey, was a silver medallist in the 100-meter dash.
