An inauguration ceremony was held to celebrate the establishment of the Chern-Simons Hall October 28.

The building, one of the first-class apartment buildings houses in the university, will mainly be used to host world-renowned experts and scholars who come to the Center for Advanced Studies in Tsinghua for research collaboration.

Mr. James H. Simons, president of the Renaissance Technology company in the U.S., and his wife funded the Chern-Simons Hall, which was named in honor of the Chern-Simons form advanced by both Professor Simons and his supervisor, leading mathematician Professor Shiing-shen Chern.

Mr. Zheng Shushan from Ministry of Education, Mr. Simons and his wife, Tsinghua President Gu Binglin, Tsinghua Vice President Zhang Fengchang, Vice Chairperson of the University Council He Meiying, Professor C.N.Yang, the Nobel Prize winner and now the honorary director of the Center for Advanced Studies, and Professor Andrew Chi-chih Yao, the Turing Award Winner and Professor of the Center attended the ceremony.
