Tsinghua-Cornell Workshop on Information Science &Technology Held

The Tsinghua-Cornell Workshop on Information Science & Technology opened in the main building November 17.

Cornell University President Hunter Rawlings and Tsinghua Vice President Gong Ke attended the inauguration ceremony held in the morning.

Vice President Gong gave an address, saying that he hoped the workshop can better promote the connection between the two universities.

Professor Rawlings delivered a speech titled “Global Universities in the Information Age” and later answered questions from students attending the event.

Professor Andrew Chi-chih Yao, a Turing Award winner and a professor with the Center for Advanced Study, and Professor John Hopcroft, a Turing Award winner and a professor at Cornell, both delivered academic lectures during the workshop.

The workshop, the first of the kind held between Tsinghua and Cornell, was launched in accordance with a memorandum of understanding on the forming of a strategic partnership between the two universities. The agreement was signed last year by the two universities and will run through November 18.

The workshop will consist of formal presentations and individual meetings, according to the agreement.

Founded in 1865, Cornell University is one of the renowned Ivy League universities in the U.S.
