A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Tsinghua and ETH Zurich (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich) November 23, during the visit of ETH Zurich President Olaf Kuebler that afternoon.

The purpose of the MOU was to promote friendly relations through the development of academic collaboration between the two institutions, said that the two may cooperate in areas including chemistry, mathematics, biology, material science, architecture.

Tsinghua President Gu Binglin met and had a friendly talk with Professor Kuebler before the singing ceremony, exchanging ideas on education, research, international exchange, environment and energy. The two presidents signed the MOU on behalf of their respective universities after the talk.

Professor Kuebler also paid visits to the Department of Computer Science and Technology and the School of Economics and Management.

Chairman of the University Council Chen Xi and President Gu Binglin each made visits to ETH Zurich this year. Professor Kuebler visited Tsinghua in November of 2004.
