Tsinghua is one of eight prestigious universities from six countries that are participating in an initiative to conduct the first worldwide scientific study on “Global Engineering Excellence.”
The other universities involved in the project are Technische Universität Darmstadt from Germany, Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich from Switzerland, Georgia Institute of Technology and Massachusetts Institute of Technology from the U.S., Shanghai Jiao Tong University from China, Universidade de São Paulo from Brazil and the University of Tokyo from Japan.
This unique collaboration will study the influence and importance of technological expertise and education on the competitiveness of nations, people, and companies. At the heart of this initiative is a comprehensive study designed to reflect a broad spectrum of topics dealing with all aspects of engineering and natural sciences.
At the kick-off and press conference,held in Technische Universität Darmstadt, Germany, Tsinghua Vice President Gong Ke, who is heading Tsinghua’s involvement in the project, delivered the keynote speech on “Development & Challenge of Engineering Education in China” to over 200 people.
The Global Engineering Excellence Initiative is sponsored by the industrial enterprise Continental AG, one of the world’s leading suppliers to the automotive industry. The first phase of this research will last one year with a total fund of 400,000 EURO.
