Nine research achievements of Tsinghua won 2005 National Science and Technology Awards recently. Tsinghua professors Yang Wei, Sui Senfang, Nan Cewen, Pan Changyong, Zhou Ji, Zhou Zhaoying, Wu Jianping accepted the awards at the National Conference on Science and Technology, opened at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on January 9.
Chinese President Hu Jintao delivered a speech at the meeting, and Premier Wen Jiabao announced the State Council's decision on the 2005 national science and technology awards.
Of the nine awards received by Tsinghua, there were three second prizes of the National Natural Science Award; three second prizes of the National Technological Invention Award; and three second prizes of the National Scientific and Technological Progress Award.
The subjects of the prize-winning research include:
- Mechatronic Reliability and Constitutive Laws of Ferroelectric Ceramics (second prize of the National Natural Science Awards), primarily achieved by Professor Yang Wei and his colleagues
- Studies on lipid/protein interactions: membrane lipids induced structural and functional changes of proteins (second prize of the National Natural Science Awards), primarily achieved by Professor Sui Senfang and his colleagues
- Microstructure-property linkages of heterogeneous materials: Theory and applications (second prize of the National Natural Science Awards), primarily achieved by Professor Nan Cewen
- Terrestrial Digital Multimedia/Television Broadcasting System (second prize of the National Technological Invention Award), primarily achieved by Professor Yang Zhixing and his colleagues
- High-performance soft ferrites with low-sintering temperature (second prize of the National Technological Invention Award), primarily achieved by Professor Zhou Ji and his colleagues
- Research on MEMS-based Measurement and Control System and Key Technologies (second prize of the National Technological Invention Award), primarily achieved by Professor Zhou Zhaoying and his colleagues
- IPv6 core router (second prize of the National Scientific and Technological Progress Award), primarily achieved by Professor Wu Jianping and his colleagues, together with Bitway Networks company
- Research on associated technologies for roller compacted concrete arch dam of shapai project (second prize of the National Scientific and Technological Progress Award), primarily achieved by Professor Zeng Zhaoyang and his colleagues, togther with other research institutes and universities
- A tetchnique study for safety inspection and assessment of pressure pipelines (second prize of the National Scientific and Technological Progress Award), primarily achieved by Professor Liu Yinghua and his colleagues, together with other research institutes
By the end of 2005, Tsinghua had won a total of 328 National Science and Technology Awards, including 34 National Natural Science Awards, 96 National Technological Invention Awards, and 198 National Scientific and Technological Progress Awards.
