Josephine M. Cheng, IBM Fellow and Vice President for IBM China Development Laboratories, was appointed Guest Professor of Tsinghua University on November 22.

Ms. Cheng was inducted into the US National Academy of Engineering in 2006 for sustained leadership and contributions to relational database technology and its pervasive applications to a wide range of digital operational systems.

Tsinghua Vice President Xie Weihe attended the conferral ceremony and presented the honorary appointment book to Ms. Cheng. Academician Li Sanli and Professor Lin Chuang, dean of the Department of Computer Science and Technology, also attended the ceremony.

Ms. Cheng delivered a speech entitled “A Lesson from the History of Software Engineering” after the ceremony.
