Date: December 4th–5th, 2021
Location: Tsinghua University, Beijing, China
One year since its inaugural launch, the Tsinghua University International AI Cooperation and Governance Forum will return tomorrow, with a renewed focus on building a balanced and inclusive AI governance system.
Hosted by Tsinghua University’s Institute for AI International Governance (I-AIIG), and with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as the international supporting partner, this year’s forum aims to advance the global conversation around the equitable use of AI, examine AI’s role in international cooperation and sustainable development, and discuss building global policy frameworks around emerging new technologies. It will also look at how AI is successfully being used to fight these challenges, what more can be done to cooperate on and tackle these issues, and future developments in the sector.
The two-day forum has three main plenaries which span seven thematic sessions addressing some of the most hotly debated issues in AI governance today. Topics include cross-cultural trust in AI, closing the digital divide between countries, leveraging AI for climate action, tackling algorithm bias, AI and international security and AI for sustainable enterprises and social development.
To amplify youth voices in the global conversation on AI, the five winning teams from the U&AI AI for SDGs Youth Bootcamp, which concluded last month, will present their proposals for AI-based solutions to the Sustainable Development Goals on Sunday. This day will also feature a forward-looking session exploring the future governance of the Metaverse – a frontier concept which raises important questions for the future of global internet governance.
The event will convene thought leaders and practitioners from around the world, including top officials from governments and international organizations, prominent academics and executives from the tech sector, thus making it a high-level platform for global dialogue.
