Brazilian Ambassador Marcos Galvão visits Tsinghua University

The Brazilian Ambassador to China, H.E.Marcos Galvão, visited Tsinghua University on May 30th, where he attended the seventh session of the “Shengyin” Lecture Series and the fifth lecture of the “Exploring Latin America and the Caribbean Countries” series as a guest speaker. He delivered a speech on the theme "Brazil-China: Constant Stability and Progress."

Pedro Henrique Barbosa, chief of the Political Section of the Brazilian Embassy in China, and Luis Yonezawa, chief of the Consular and Education Section of the Brazilian Embassy in China, joined the ambassador in attending the event.

Professor Chen Taotao, director of the School of Economics and Management and the Latin America Center at Tsinghua University, delivered an opening speech and warmly welcomed H.E.Marcos

Galvão. She expressed her hope that the event would provide a platform for sustained friendly exchanges and cooperation between China and Brazil, enhance Tsinghua students' understanding of Brazil, and improve their global competence.

H.E.Marcos Galvão first extended a warm welcome and thanks to the faculty and students present. He pointed out that despite the geographical distance between Brazil and China, it has not hindered the continuous development of bilateral relations. In recent years, trade between China and Brazil has expanded rapidly, and cooperation in various fields has continued to grow. Brazil has become China's largest importer of agricultural products and an important destination for Chinese foreign investment. He emphasized the strong economic complementarity between the two countries, both of which have rich resources and large markets, and bilateral relations have deepened, with cooperation based on mutual trust. However, there is still a need for a greater mutual understanding of each other's cultures as bilateral relations continue to advance. To promote cultural exchanges, further expansion of personnel exchanges and cooperation in areas such as environmental protection and new energy technologies are essential. H.E. Marcos Galvão stressed that the strategic partnership between China and Brazil is not limited to trade and politics but also includes culture. Brazil hopes to deepen its cooperation with China in various fields such as technology, education, and sports, emphasizing the importance of cultural exchange in deepening bilateral relations. He reiterated that cooperation between China and Brazil is not only crucial for the development of the two countries but also has a positive impact on the world.

During the interactive session, students raised questions about cooperation among BRICS countries and strategies for cultural promotion. H.E.Marcos Galvão provided detailed answers. He reaffirmed Brazil's commitment to further developing bilateral relations and expressed his hope for more direct and meaningful cultural dialogues between China and Brazil to enhance cultural understanding and talent exchange. He encouraged young students to take on the responsibility for promoting cultural exchanges, believing that the future of China-Brazil relations will be collectively written by the people of both countries together.

At the end of the event, a Tsinghua University student representative presented H.E.Marcos Galvão with a fan featuring iconic symbols of Brazilian culture and the Tsinghua motto, expressing sincere gratitude for the ambassador's inspiring lecture.
