On the morning of January 19, 2023, Academician Gao Huajian, a foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, member of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences of the United States, Fellow of the Royal Society of the UK, member of the German National Academy of Sciences, member of the European Academy of Sciences, and Chair Professor at Tsinghua University, visited the Department of Precision Instrumentation at Tsinghua University for inspection and research. Liu Qiang, the head of the department, Bai Benfeng, the party committee secretary, and other members of the leadership, as well as Zhang Rong, the director of the State Key Laboratory of Precision Measurement Technology and Instruments, along with other leaders of research teams and faculty representatives, participated in the exchange activities.

Academician Gao Huajian and his delegation first visited the laboratories of the Nano-Optics Team, the Biomedical and Instrument Team, and the Brain-Inspired Computing Team, and listened to introductions about their scientific research work and achievements.

At the subsequent symposium, Liu Qiang presented an overview of the department's development history, discipline construction, talent team, teaching and scientific research, and the construction of research platforms. He also discussed the department's development plan towards the year 2030. He expressed that Academician Gao Huajian has remarkable academic achievements and a wide international influence, and hoped that Academician Gao could provide guidance for the development of the department's disciplines, especially in conducting top-level international research and education.

On behalf of the faculty and students of the department, Bai Benfeng warmly congratulated Academician Gao Huajian on his appointment as a Chair Professor at Tsinghua University. He hoped that Academician Gao would provide guidance and assistance in the development of the department's disciplines, the introduction of high-end talent, and the reform of education and teaching. He also expressed the wish to cooperate deeply with various research teams of the Department of Precision Instrumentation in areas such as engineering innovation research and interdisciplinary integration, jointly promoting the high-quality development of the university's disciplinary construction and interdisciplinary integration, and contributing to the realization of high-level technological self-reliance and self-improvement.

Academician Gao Huajian fully affirmed the department's disciplinary construction and its achievements in teaching and scientific research. He expressed his hope that the department would continue to strengthen interdisciplinary cooperation with other departments, achieve new and greater accomplishments in cutting-edge basic research, and major engineering applications. He also conveyed his strong support for the department's development in areas such as disciplinary construction and the introduction of high-end talent.
