On September 25, 2019, the Sun Yefang Economic Science Foundation unveiled the result of the 18th Sun Yefang Economic Science Award. It announced that the paper entitled “Mortgage and the Land Trading System in the Qing Dynasty” (Social Sciences in China Press, Issue 5, 2013), which was jointly written by Professor Long Denggao from the Institute of Economics of the School of Social Sciences, Tsinghua University, and other co-authors won the 18th Sun Yefang Economic Science Award.
The Award takes place every two years as stipulated in the Charter of the Sun Yefang Economic Science Foundation. Since the announcement on the selection of the 18th Sun Yefang Economic Science Award (2018) in June 2018, the Office of the Foundation has received a large number of entries, including 82 books and 134 papers, by the end of November 2018.
According to the selection rules, the Foundation invited 21 economics teaching and research institutions such as Peking University, Tsinghua University and Renmin University of China to respectively recommend an expert with a senior title. These experts, along with some members of the award panel, formed a preliminary selection group. Experts in the preliminary selection group first conducted the double-independent review of all the entries, then the centralized review as well as secret scoring. According to the rating result, the Standing Council of the Sun Yefang Economic Science Foundation decided to form a list of recommended works composed of four books and eight papers, and submitted them to the award panel for discussion and voting. On July 20, 2019, the award panel organized a meeting to review the recommended works. Through serious discussions and secret differential voting, and under the principle of more than half of the votes, the judges selected the list of award-winning entries (one book and three papers). The list was announced publicly between July 29 and August 28, 2019. During the notice publicity period, it did not receive substantive objections. On September 20, the Council of the Sun Yefang Economic Science Foundation approved the list of award-winning entries.
The 18th Award Ceremony of the Sun Yefang Economic Science Award will be held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing in November 2019.
