On June 27, Beijing enjoyed high sky, pale clouds and bright sunlight clear from the dull weather due to high temperature for a few days, where the 2-day “Global Chinese Philanthropy Initiative: Tsinghua Forum” serial activities were unveiled.
The Forum was sponsored by the Center for Chinese Entrepreneur Studies, Tsinghua University (CCES) and the Asia Pacific Center, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), co-sponsored by several other parties and greatly supported by those from both home and abroad. During the days, famous philanthropists, experts, scholars and representatives of relevant foundations across the Pacific Ocean got together to exchange experiences and carry out academic discussions about the development of philanthropic work in China and by Chinese Americans, philanthropy and higher education, Chinese entrepreneurs and philanthropy, philanthropic research methodology and other topics of significant theoretical and practical meanings.
On the afternoon, the welcome reception for special guests was held in Jiasuo Hotel, Bingsuo Hotel and Gongziting (I-Hall) in Tsinghua University, with the participants of nearly 80 entrepreneurs, philanthropists, experts and scholars from the USA, the UK, Germany, Singapore and Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Taking advantage of the platform from the welcome activity, the guests got to know each other regardless of language, nationality or major, carried out extensive exchanges of the philanthropic ideas and activities relating to the Forum’s theme, and looked forward to the prospects of further exchange and cooperation in the future.
Qiu Yong, President of Tsinghua University and UCLA’s President Gene D. Block posed for a group photo with all special guests, made welcome speeches in succession for their presence to the Global Chinese Philanthropy Initiative: Tsinghua Forum, expressed their high respects and sincere thanks for their enthusiasm in public welfare, attentions to philanthropy, spirits of contributing to the society and philanthropic acts, and hoped to promote relevant exchange and cooperation between the two universities and between China and the USA through the Forum.

During the reception, Yang Bin, Vice President and Dean of Studies of Tsinghua University and C. Cindy Fan, Vice President of University of California, Los Angeles made a speech respectively. Prof. Yang Bin, on behalf of Tsinghua University, extended a welcome to the guests from various circles of China and the USA, and wished the Forum a great success; Ms. C. Cindy Fan was glad to see extensive attentions from various social circles to the Chinese philanthropic activities sponsored by the two universities through cooperation, and expressed appreciation and thanks to Tsinghua University and relevant sponsoring and execution units for their efforts to guarantee smooth activities. Gene D. Block, President of UCLA, on behalf of the University, presented souvenirs to Yang Bin, Vice President, Peng Kaiping, Dean of the School of Social Sciences and Prof. Long Denggao from CCES. Ronnie C. Chan and Stewart Kwoh, as representatives of philanthropists, also shared their philanthropic experiences and ideas, and “preannounced” their speeches and interviews concerned to be delivered at the Forum humorously and vividly. Prof. Peng Kaiping, Director of the School of Social Sciences, hosted the welcome ceremony and banquet.
