The Chen Daisun Theoretical Economics Lecture sponsored by the Institute of Economics, School of Social Sciences, Tsinghua University has been held for 11 years successfully. The Lecture aims to cultivate academic research level of the postgraduates and good academic research of our Institute, improve our level and quality in domestic and international exchange and cooperation, and enhance our influences in theoretical economics research field both at home and abroad.
At 1:30 p.m. on Nov.2, 2018, the new session of Chen Daisun Theoretical Economics Lecture was held in Rm. 315, Mingzhai Hall, attracting students from all departments and institutes under the School of Social Sciences, including more than 20 undergraduates, M.S. students and doctoral students and post-doctors from the Academy. Shi Yongjiang, Director of the Research Section, International Manufacturing and Management Center, University of Cambridge, was invited to give a lecture this time, who demonstrated the theme of how to understand business ecology.

Prof. Shi first introduced the background and source of the concept of business ecology, then analyzed how to understand and describe business ecology, explained establishment of business ecology in detail by taking ARM’s development and the copycat innovation in Shenzhen, China as the cases, summarized that the interaction between value chain and embedded resource pool serves as the main driver to generation and development of business ecology, and finally expressed some thoughts on what kind of theories and applications business ecology will bring to the management science, greatly inspiring the M.S. students and doctoral students and being unanimously appreciated by the teachers and students present at the Lecture. Doctoral Student Kang Zhengyao from the Institute of Economics addressed highly forward-looking questions on the mechanism and structure that each entity in business ecology shares risks and interests, winning affirmation and in-depth personal thinking of Prof. Shi. A post-doctor from the State-owned Enterprise Research Academy asked questions on the role of culture in the ecology, on which Teacher Shi and Teacher Rong expressed their views, namely corporate culture and social culture make very important influences on business ecology, and determine the process of evolution of business ecology together with other factors.
In the end, Teacher Rong Ke summarized the seminar and thanked Prof. Shi for his wonderful views. The seminar was successfully concluded.
