On the afternoon of January 23, 2024, the 10th Future Economists Forum hosted by the Institute of Economics, School of Social Sciences, Tsinghua University, was held at Room 247, Mingzhai Building, Tsinghua University. The forum featured an academic report entitled "The Political Economy of Financialization: from spontaneous to subordinate" by Huang Zeqing, an outstanding young scholar at Renmin University of China (RUC), a researcher at the Contemporary Political Party Studies Platform (CPPS) and a lecturer from the School of Marxism Studies at RUC. Teachers and students from the Institute of Economics, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the School of Marxism, Beihang University, as well as the Institute of Economics of the School of Social Sciences and the School of Marxism, Tsinghua University attended the forum for a heated discussion. Zhao Zhun, Associate Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at Tsinghua Institute of Economics, presided over the forum and discussion.
Huang argued that financialization should be discussed in the context of the relationship between interest-bearing capital and industrial capital. He further analyzed the advanced forms of interest-bearing capital and the independence of virtual capital in light of the development of credit, and explored the three constraints of interest-bearing capital based on Volume 3 of Capital and the Economic Manuscripts of 1863-1865.
Finally, the teachers and students attending the forum had a discussion with Huang on topics such as the division of dominant capital and production mode, characteristics of virtual capital, credit development, high-quality financial development and financial reforms in China. The forum witnessed an in-depth and detailed discussion in a warm atmosphere, with the set agenda completed successfully.
