A Brief History of the Tsinghua Economics Institute:
1926, Tsinghua University School of Law was established with a Department of Economics.
1928, Professor Chen Daisun became chairman of the Department of Economics.
1938, Tsinghua Department of Economics was merged with other institutions into the National Southwest Associated University.
1946, Tsinghua Department of Economics was re-established.
1952, Tsinghua Department of Economics was merged into other institutions, as part of the reorganization of China's higher educational institutions-  some faculty and students of the Department moved to Tsinghua Department of New Democratism.
1953, Tsinghua University established the Teaching & Research Office of Political Economy,
1978, the Office of Political Economy was merged into the newly created Tsinghua Department of Social Sciences.
1979, the Office of Political Economy was split in two:(1) the Tsinghua Department of Economic and Management Engineering (later became The School of Economics and Management) and (2) the Department of Social Sciences.
1991, the Office of Political Economy began to admit graduate students in the field of Contemporary Chinese Economy within the fields of Marxist theory and Ideological and Political Education.
1993, the Office of Political Economy became part of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and was renamed the Institute of Economics.
1997, the Institute began to admit doctoral students in the field of “Deng Xiaoping Theory and Contemporary Chinese Economy.”
2001, the Institute began admitting graduate students in the fields of Political Economy and History of Economies.
2003, the Institute began admitting doctorial students in the field of Political Economy.
2006, the Insitute was authorized to provide doctorate degree program in theoretical economics by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council.
